Darren Moffat is taking the helm of Asahi Beverages New Zealand’s non-alcohol business arm, The Better Drinks Co.
Auckland-based Moffat, a former sales director for Fonterra, Kellogg’s and Kimberley-Clark, began at The Better Drinks Co. in March and Asahi confirmed on Wednesday his appointment to the top job at the business.
He will be responsible for the performance of key brands such Charlie’s, Phoenix Organics, Lipton Iced Tea and Berocca.
Moffat replaced former head of The Better Drinks Co. James Connelly, who has returned to his native Queensland to work within the wider Asahi Beverages group in a strategy role.
Asahi said Moffat brought with him a strong sales and marketing background in FMCG, having worked for companies like SAB Miller and Kellogg’s in Africa.
He has also worked for Fonterra as general manager of beverages and as a sales director in foodservice. Most recently he was sales director for American multinational personal care corporation Kimberley Clarke on a 12 month contract.
“We’re truly excited to have Darren on board to further drive the growing non-alcohol brand side of our business,” said Asahi Beverages NZ chief executive Andrew Campbell
Moffat’s appointment comes as the Japanese drinks giant adds coffee to its portfolio with the purchase of Auckland-based Allpress Espresso.
