Fresh Cuts: What’s new for the week to 19 April?

19th April 2024 By Staff Reporter | news@foodticker.co.nz | @foodtickernz

Whittaker’s adds a tropical block, Lewis Road levels up cookies & cream, Cookie Time expands its frozen range, Campari has a bottle redesign, and overseas Kraft Heinz leans into Barbiecore.

Whittaker’s new Mango & Coconut block

Chocolate brand Whittaker’s is adding a new Mango & Coconut block to its permanent core range.

The Porirua chocolate manufacturer said the 250g block was inspired by mango sticky rice dessert, using Whittaker’s caramelised white chocolate, mango fruit pieces, and toasted coconut.

The classic block will have an RRP of $6.29 and will be available in stores nationwide from Monday 22 April, with a planned in-store date of 6 May in Australia.

Lewis Road Creamery makes over cookies & cream ice cream

Another leading New Zealand food brand, Lewis Road Creamery, has a new offering this week.

The premium consumer dairy brand, owned by Southern Pastures, has completed a makeover of the classic cookies & cream ice cream, taking a cookie-flavoured base, adding chunks of cookie plus a ribbon of chocolate sauce.

Available now in 470ml tubs from New World, Pak’n’Save, Farro, and select Woolworths stores nationwide from around $11.

Cookie Time’s The Chocolate Brownie Cookie Sandwich

Cookie Time has also reworked an old classic for a new addition to its frozen treat range.

The manufacturer has added The Chocolate Brownie Cookie Sandwich using Appleby Farms’ vanilla ice cream and two of its Chocolate Brownie cookies.

Launching on Monday 22 April, the chocolate brownie joins the first two flavours launched in March last year, when the company first entered the frozen department. The RRP is $5.50.

Campari’s new bottle for Italian aperitivo

Not a new product, but a new bottle for Campari’s Italian aperitivo in New Zealand.

The newly designed bottle was inspired by the drink’s birthplace, Milano, and is the bottle’s first redesign in more than ten years.

The new-look Campari bottle is available in New Zealand liquor retailers now, with the international spirits manufacturer last year becoming majority owner in a local spirits distribution company, Thirsty Camel.

Kraft Heinz’s Barbiecue

And some overseas NPD inspiration this week too.

Kraft Heinz has revealed a limited edition Barbiecue sauce, launched in partnership with Mattel EMEA.

The sauce follows last year’s continued Barbiecore craze, with Heinz testing its fans about whether this condiment should become a reality.

It has now been brought to life as the Barbie Brand celebrates its 65th anniversary and as people begin to fire-up the BBQ in the Northern Hemisphere.

Barbiecue is available in the UK and Spain.
