Kāpiti and Wairarapa olive oil makers have swept the annual New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards, winning all five major accolades.
Kapiti Olives won best in show for its Kapiti Frantoio Blend. There were 81 gold, 72 silver and 9 bronze medals awarded
Awards organisers Olives New Zealand said there were 165 entries, the highest on record.
The five major award winners announced on Saturday evening at the awards ceremony:
Best in Show – Kapiti Frantoio Blend by Kapiti Olives, Kapiti
Best Boutique – Tauherenikau – Olive2Oil by Tauherenikau Olives, Wairarapa
Reserve Best in Show – Blue Earth Intense by Hanson Farm Partnership, Wairarapa
Reserve Best Boutique – Totara Tunnel Frantoio by Totara Tunnel, Kapiti
Best Flavoured Oil – Pressed Gold Midori No Yuzu by Olive Press, Wairarapa.
