The Government is offering unemployed New Zealanders up to $200 a week for accommodation costs, for seasonal summer work.
Minister for Social Development Carmel Sepuloni made the announcement on Friday, and said the government would offer a $1000 payment for workers who completed jobs of six weeks, or longer.
It would also increase wet weather payments when people can’t work to reflect the minimum wage.
Sepuloni said getting Kiwis into jobs was the government’s “top priority”, and hoped the changes would help address the barriers unemployed face when considering seasonal jobs.
