Sanford chief executive Volker Kuntzsch has resigned.
The company’s chair, Sir Rob McLeod, made the announcement today and said Kuntzsch’s last day would be September 18.
Kuntzsch joined the Auckland-headquartered company in 2013 and had previously been president of fishing company Nippon Suisan’s US business, and president and chief executive of large US firm King & Price Seafood Corp.
“Volker has helped transform Sanford into a progressive, values-based company with an outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and to Sanford’s people,” McLeod said.
“Over those last seven years we have made good progress on maximising the value of our fish products and diversifying our business, as well as turning our aquaculture business into a profitable and innovative unit.
“As we now move towards a greater focus on consumer-driven innovation and marketing, Volker and the Sanford board have agreed that now would be a sensible time for a new leader to drive the next phase of the strategy.”
McLeod added that the Sanford board would shortly begin an international search for a replacement chief executive. Sanford’s chief customer officer, Andre Gargiulo, had been appointed acting chief executive.
