The value of New Zealand’s red meat sector exports reached $693m during October 2021, a 27% increase on the same month last year, according to the Meat Industry Association.
MIA said sheepmeat was “a standout performer” with the value increasing by 25% to $309m.
MIA chief executive Sirma Karapeeva said a mixture of supply constraints and good demand in key markets had contributed to the high sheepmeat prices.
Overall, the value in October of China’s imports of New Zealand red meat was up 34% to $262m, the US by 47% to $138m, Japan by 29% to $31m and the Netherlands by 76% to $30m.
