Japanese consumers are becoming increasingly discerning about the food they eat and drink “and looking for everything that New Zealand excels in: premium products, products that are safe, sustainable, and trustworthy,” according to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise.

NZTE said it also saw an opportunity in the trend for healthy foods, such as protein, good oils, vegan, gluten-free, and low-sugar products and probiotics, which are being increasingly incorporated into diet and lifestyle.
