Nats highlight food inflation, urge govt cuts

15th February 2022 By Staff Reporter | news@foodticker.co.nz | @foodtickernz

The National Party says households are going backwards and pay packets are failing to keep up with the rising cost of food.

Stats NZ Food Price Index data released yesterday showed annual food prices climbed by the highest rate in a decade, up 5.9% in January, compared with a year earlier.

National’s finance spokesperson Simon Bridges said the data showed domestic inflation was growing, not just international inflation pressures, and the government should bring its spending under control.
