The Māori Party has announced a policy to remove GST from all kai to ease the burden on households struggling through the cost of living crisis.
Co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer said food was a right and a necessity and getting rid of GST on food should be a no-brainer for the government to help struggling whānau.
The idea was first introduced in 2010 by former Māori MP Rahui Katene, who had a members bill to remove GST from healthy kai.
