A petition to stop the live exporting of animals from Port Taranaki has been given to owner Taranaki Regional Council.
Animal rights organisation SAFE and Taranaki Animal Rights Group handed the petition signed by over 11,700 people over on Tuesday, asking the council to order its port to stop exporting live animals.
So far this year, over 21,000 cows have been exported from Port Taranaki, according to SAFE and Taranaki Animal Rights Group.
