Scientists working on kiwifruit genome sequencing and breeding have been honoured in the Science New Zealand 2020 National Awards.
The awards were held at Parliament in Wellington on Thursday night, with the kiwifruit genome sequencing team receiving a team award for their work in manually annotating the kiwifruit genome.
Kiwifruit breeder Dr Russell Lowe was also recognised with a lifetime achievement award for his work in the sector.
In 2010 Lowe recognised Psa disease tolerance in the cultivar ‘Zesy002’, known as Zespri SunGold, which Science NZ said underpinned the industry’s rapid recovery.
