Zespri and Plant & Food Research’s Kiwifruit Breeding Centre 50/50 joint venture opens its doors this week.
Based at Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty, and also operating out of Kerikeri, Motueka and Mt Albert in Auckland, the centre has about 45 staff. It would also have a presence offshore in selected kiwifruit regions.
KBC is led by chief executive Matt Glenn, formerly with Quayside Holdings, the commercial investment arm of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, and the board chair is Michael Ahie, chancellor of Massey University and a former chair of Plant & Food Research.
