Milk powder, butter, and cheese made up 39% of total exports by Māori authorities in the December 2021 quarter, according to Stats NZ.
The agency found total sales by Māori authority businesses rose in every quarter of 2020 and 2021 when compared with the same quarter of the previous year, ending at values of $330m for primary industry groups, $266m for good producing sectors, and $460m for services in the December 2021 quarter.
The role of Māori authorities and their subsidiaries is to receive, manage, and/or administer assets held in common ownership by Māori. In the December 2021 quarter, 1,458 Māori authorities and related businesses were in the Tatauranga umanga Māori population.
