Seasonally adjusted debit and credit card spending rose by $551m or 7% to $8.1bn in April 2022 compared with the previous month, according to Stats NZ.
This is a larger increase than was seen in March, when spending rose by only 1.7% compared with February, reflecting the country’s move to the orange Covid setting and the Easter and school holidays occurring in April.
Stats NZ said that in actual terms, monthly card spending on hospitality continued to decrease, down $56m or 4.9% compared with April 2021.
