Law firm Simpson Grierson’s latest Mergers & Acquisitions report puts a value of US$1.057bn (NZ$1.5bn) on FountainVest Partners’ purchase of NZ pet food company Ziwi Peak – the third largest New Zealand deal this year.

The report showed 70 deals had been completed in the year to date, with total value of all deals to date US$10.1bn (NZ$14.6bn), up 250% from US$2.8bn (NZ$4bn) for the full year of 2020, when there were 79 deals.

It expected the annual deal count to hit 95 by the end of the year making it the busiest year for M&A since 2018.

The largest transaction so far this year was Mercury New Zealand and Powering Australian Renewables’ US$2.55bn purchase of Tilt Renewables.
